6 - 8 years is the ultimate limit for computers.

250gb is way to small for today's needs. Purchase at least 512. What do you need it for? internet, word, gaming?

Email, word, facebook and other internet websites. No gaming. A good web camera is needed because I skype overseas family and friends. Over 512 would be even better, 1,000gb is preferred since i want to keep this for years to come.

I assume you won't buy Toshiba again. $950 is too low a budget for asus of your requirements. Acer is kind of within your budget.

The main things to look for when buying a computer:

-- SSD or HHD. ssd is way more expensive but faster, smaller and lighter. I suggest you read more about this.
-- RAM. The more ram, the more programs that you can have open at once. Don't buy less than 4GB.
-- Processor. How fast your computer can process information. I'd suggest i7 latest gen or higher.
-- mousepad and keyboard. do you like it?
-- screen size
-- number of usb
-- screen resolution

It's $50 over budget but this has amazing specifications.

2TB of HDD storage, i7, 4gb ram, big screen.

Thanks, i needed the breakdown. 15 inch is a good size, the webcam is HD what I need. 4 usb slots is more than enought. Yaasssss, Acer and Asus are make some nice looking machines. I'm pretty sold on this one.

no worries :) just remember that it's hdd, so treat it carefully. Bumps and magnets can cause data loss therefore they're not ideal to be thrown into a backpack.

Two weeks ago I updated to Windows 10 - what a change! My PC has a touch screen, something you may want to consider. No reason to buy a tablet.
