Around Christmas time I'm searching for holiday destinations in the warmer quarters of the globe (budget around £3000) - likely going with friends. I'm not keen on backpacking and hostels, having had negative experiences in that regard with other backpackers. Instead I'd prefer a relaxing holiday on the sand by the shoreline, saunas, spas and proper facilities. Resorts are ok, providing that they are managed well. Safety is paramount - I do not wish to travel to any risky places. What have your experiences been? Please let me in on any relaxing places you've been! I'm trying to plan ahead before the best of all accommodation is fully booked. Thank you all.

Isn't too ready to decide where to go for the Christmas holidays?

Come to Australia and visit Byron Bay! There's a resort there called The Byron at Byron with a gym, pool, spa and restaurant all on site. It's a beautiful location to stay, the sand and surf are among the best I've seen. Here's more information about Byron bay - that's the official Byron bay guide.

Spontaneity is fun... It's also enjoyable to commit to a holiday so I'm forced to take a break. I've found that the longer I've waited before making accommodation reservations, the less choice I've had, and the accommodation is a large part of the whole holiday experience.

Do you know if there's any nearby shopping? festivals? other events? things to see?

Top holiday spot. Loved by us Aussies and popular with tourists.
Go to the Bay Leaf cafe, the food is so good.
