The new 'thing' in supplements could be chocolate pills.

There's evidence to show that chocolate can be ingested for medicinal purposes, for heart health, but large quantities are required for an effective dose - therefore excessive calorie intake. The idea is that the chocolate pills can provide flavanols without the excessive calorie intake.

Scientists say flavanols from cocoa assist nitric oxide production, aiding blood flow.

I'm not sure. What do you think?

The pills would be useful because cocoa plants vary in flavanol quantities.

IMO I don't think it's correct to call it a "chocolate pill", chocolate implies the processing of cocoa to make a solid block of confectionery. The processing of cocoa destroys most flavanols. It's just a flavanol extract.

High-flavanol content starts with careful selection of the right cocoa beans. “There are great differences in flavanol content between beans from different cocoa-growing countries, which depend on bean characteristics (genotype, or cocoa variety) and on external influences such as climate, soil, and pre- and post-harvest practices,” says Leen Allegaert, clinical researcher, Barry Callebaut (Zurich, Switzerland). Kerry Cavanaugh, brand director, Mars Chocolate, agrees that sourcing “fresh, high-quality cocoa beans” is one of the biggest challenges in creating high-flavanol cocoa.
